New Year, New #Momgoals

Happy New Year Famomamas! Let’s be honest, achieving anything when kids are around can be close to impossible. There are some days where making it to bedtime is a goal achieved itself! That being said, we want to remind moms how important it is to take care of yourself and set goals to make self care a priority. Here are five ways you can make 2022 the year of Mom.  We also share a few ways our Famokids non-toxic play mat can help you achieve these goals!  Our interlocking baby play mat doesn’t just help your baby, it helps you!

1. Set aside time for yourself.  It is so important to find time for yourself. We all need the time to unwind and clear our mind. Remember, it is never selfish to need alone time. By taking time away from your kids to recharge, you are allowing yourself to be the best mom. In order to achieve this, you may need to delegate more chores to your family, set up playdates by taking turns with friends, plan or prep meals ahead of time so you have more time on weeknights to unwind, and set your child up with engaging activities like sensory play on our easy to clean foam baby mat to keep them independently entertained. These are just some of the ways you can free up time for yourself.

2. Improve your health.  Healthy mind, body, and soul. Sometimes, this can be a hard habit to commit to. As moms, it’s so easy to find quick fixes for snacks (if you're like us, you tend to focus more on getting your kids fed and just feed yourself the quickest thing you can find when you remember to eat). So to start, decide which small part of your daily routine can be adjusted to improve your health. It doesn’t have to be all or nothing. Do you want to add more fruits and vegetables to your diet and eat less junk food? Can you squeeze 5 minutes of exercises or stretches into your schedule?  Did you know that you can use the Famokids non-toxic floor tiles as an exercise mat too!  Perhaps you can find time to go on more walks with your kids during the day. Anything that gets you moving and your heart pumping counts as exercise, so dance parties, soccer in the backyard, and family bike rides, are a great way to find time to exercise as a mom!

3. Get organized.  After the holidays, it may seem like toys are everywhere! One organization tip we love to share with moms is to rotate your toys.  Take away half the toys (making sure to leave the current favorites) and temporarily store them in a box. Once they start losing interest in them, switch them out! The old toys will seem new again!  It can help keep play time more independent and lasting longer (which means more “me time” for you).  We also love to organize baskets by toy type. Baskets for animals, dolls, blocks… That way you can bring one basket out to play with on your Famokids foam play mat at a time! Makes for easy clean up, and the kids know where to put the toys when they are done! Bonus, if you don’t want to leave your Famokids baby floor mat out, it breaks down easily to stack and store!  Or, set it up in a new room for tummy time, safe play, exercise, or easy to clean art projects!

4. Plan a fun trip.  In the age of covid, this can be difficult. However, it doesn’t have to be extravagant or even on a plane. A short weekend getaway visiting new places can be great for the mind too! Research has shown that the act of planning a vacation alone, increases a person’s happiness. Humans crave new experiences and adventures.  Being a mom doesn’t change that. The act of traveling with kids can become stressful, but there are many ways to reduce the chaos, and travel smoothly. This New York Times article offers a ton of good advice!

5. Find a new hobby.  While you may find trips alone to the bathroom in silence, your favorite activity, we encourage you to discover other activities that bring you enjoyment. Think about what kind of hobby would bring you happiness and confidence. Here are a few categories of hobbies:

      1. Enrichment- learning a new language, reading, writing …
      2. Creativity- needle point, painting, candle making …
      3. Athletics- yoga, team sports, running …
      4. Social- game nights, book clubs, dinner parties …
      5. Outdoor Recreation- hiking, swimming, biking, birding …

We hope these mom tips and our playroom mat can help you reach your goals in 2022! The more you love and take care of yourself, the better you are at taking care of others! Don’t forget that you are amazing, and should be proud of all that you have already accomplished! How will you take care of yourself this year?
